Every morning is a wake-up call. Each new breath we take creates the backdrop for a whole new set of exciting circumstances and opportunities to grow and live the dream that God has placed in our hearts and minds. “See how the Lord blesses those who fear him.”
“Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” Included in this recurring opening scene of life is the demand, yes, the demand to die to oneself. This includes the start of throwing out any excuses as to why we cannot or choose not to be happy. That’s right; we must shield our hearts from the negative influences that come from within and from outside our lives. That also means being totally realistic with ourselves and asking for forgiveness. This leaves behind the deceptions that creep into our hearts that somehow we don’t deserve to suffer or experience disappointments. Jesus never promised a smooth ride, but He sure did ensure that we would have a safe landing.
“I will do it. Be made clean.” Jesus taught us that he can and does both forgive and heal. Perhaps that is the most important lesson we are to learn today. Spiritual sickness does impact our physical lives. Sin wounds and the love of Christ heals. This process must start with each of us personally.
Even though nothing externally or existentially has changed around us, even though the same ruthless and negative voices are still chattering outside our personal walls, the impact of honesty, forgiveness, and healing has everything to do with moving forward from an old way of life to the bright promise of what is waiting for us this very day.
Let us pray:
Lord, you are Holy above all others, and all of the strength that I need is in your hands. I am not asking, Lord, that you take this trial away. Instead, I simply ask that Your will be done in my life. Whatever that means, that is what I want.
But I admit that it’s hard, Lord. Sometimes I feel like I can’t go on. The pain and the fear are too much for me, and I know that I don’t have the strength on my own to get through this. I know that I can come to you, Jesus, and that you will hear my prayer. I know that it is not your intent to bring me to this point just to leave me in the wilderness alone.
Please, Lord, give me the strength that I need to face today. I don’t have to worry about tomorrow. If you just give me the strength that I need today that is all I need. Keep me from sinning during this trial. Instead, help me to keep my eyes on you. You are the Holy Lord, and all of my hope rests in you.
Thank you for hearing my prayer. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

He has never been known to interrupt a single person, say an unkind thing, although he did come close during the last Dallas Cowboy game, or leave any food on his plate. Ray wants to live in a world where Jesus is Lord, life is sacred, and blessings never end.

Father David comes from the land of Iowa where you can get sunburn and frostbite all in the same week. He has the mind of an architect and the soul of a musician. Father David has given his heart to Jesus and truly lives in the Kingdom. An accomplished guitarist, drummer, phenomenal preacher, he has the voice of a baritone angel. His prayers are powerful and his humor, well… it’s Iowan.

Her financial expertise and engaging conversation has ensured great things ahead for CityOfAgape. Her life is filled with a constant welcome that is focused and friendly.

Jacqueline’s life epitomizes hard work, creative service and complete dedication, not only to CityOfAgape, but also to her husband, Joshua, and her beautiful children. Her smile, even when things are difficult, is refreshing and comforting. In most currently used English dictionaries, under the word “energy,” you will find Jacqueline’s picture.

Janice is not only meticulous in reviewing records and requests for Scriptures, but her eyes well-up with joyful tears when you ask her about all the letters she has received from the thousands of Bible recipients over the years. She loves gardening and listening to the earth; her life is like a long stroll through an intriguing and engaging nature center.

Father James’ priestly service has taken him to four different countries, many parish settings, and in contact with more friends that rivals most politicians. One of his favorite quotes is by G.K. Chesterton, “Let your religion be less of a theory and more of a love affair.” If there are sounds of a lively discussion, mixed with hearty laughter and the aroma of a good cigar, Father James can’t be too far way.

Always happy, even when he is sad, John is ready to challenge and comfort all in the same breath. Where some only see problems, John sees the bright promise of tomorrow.
