The Word of God

Reflection – Lectionary: 95

As we begin another day, we are treated to back-to-back dramatic episodes that should and could make a difference not only in the upcoming week but also for the rest of the year. Tables and weather conditions are dramatically turned around, and the result is simply amazing for all of us:

“The Lord addressed Job out of the storm and said: ‘Who shut within doors the sea, when it burst forth from the womb?'” To be faced with the awful scenario of actions and behavior that you understand the least is simply traumatic, to say the least. Yet, Job humbled himself in such a marvelous way that he could listen with an open heart and mind.  Jesus, of the House of David, took the threatening condition of storm and rain and displayed His authority over all creation, humans, and nature. “He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet!  Be still!”  Once the inner storms and weaknesses within the human soul are faced and blessed in the name of Jesus, peace is returned, life is strengthened, and fear takes a back seat; the further, the better. This is true freedom.

“The first thing is to be honest with yourself. You can never have an impact on society if you have not changed yourself. Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty, but most importantly humility.” Nelson Mandela
